New Hartford Police: Normal procedure, increased awareness

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Marquee Cinemas has at least six showings Friday of "The Dark Knight Rises," the movie that was being shown when a gunman opened fire at a theater in Colorado.

NEWSChannel 2 reached out New Hartford Police to see what their plan was in light of the shootings in Colorado.

According to Chief Michael Inserra, NHPD always has two patrol cars assigned to that area of New Hartford's service area. That will still be the case on Friday night and into the weekend.

The chief also said that Marquee Cinemas usually has private security of their own, which will be the case Friday.

Officials in Colorado said they are confident the gunman acted alone and they do not expect copy-cat events anywhere across the country.

The New York City Police Department has increased their presence in area movie theaters as a precaution.

Of course, police and patrons will have an increased awareness added to their average routines as the weekend approaches.
