New York Knicks dancer returns to her roots to help area kids

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Utica native Latoya Brooks is now the captain of the Knicks City Dancers, but she's home for the holidays and took the time Wednesday to work with area youth.

Brooks, who was born and raised in Utica and studied at the Dancenter of Utica, was at the studio Wednesday teaching kids a new and funky dance style and encouraging them to let loose.

"It's really rewarding, and I'm very grateful," said Brooks. "I've been able to live down in Manhattan. It's not easy, especially with a dancing career.

"I've been very blessed to come back here and share my journey and success with the upcoming youth."

Brooks has danced for the New York Knicks for five seasons.
