New York Mills students compete during "Olympic Day"

By WKTV News

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a war between blue and orange at New York Mills School on Friday afternoon as the annual Olympic Day was held.

The students, from grades K-6, went head to head in just about every track and field event you can imagine. It made for not only a day of fun, but as Superintendent Kathy Houghton said, some valuable lessons, as well.

"We do it for fun," Houghton said. "I think at the end of the year, kids deserve a fun, culminating activity and this has been a tradition here for as long as I can remember. Beyond that, it's part of our character development program. We're teaching kids, teams, to show good sportsmanship and to congratulate each other, win or lose."

Houghton said that at the end of the day, both teams win.
