SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Day one of the Great New York State Fair shows there's a lot to do, see and eat!
Opening day of the 2013 version of The Great New York State Fair on Thursday saw muggy conditions with temperatures in the '80's and a great crowd.
Karen Merry of Remsen made the trip from Remsen with her young son who wanted to possibly catch a glimpse of President Obama and Governor Cuomo who were rumored to stop in while the President made a stop in Syracuse on his bus tour.
The Merry family also had plenty of time to sample everything from the free chocolate milk in the Dairy Products Building, to some amazing sirloin tip samples from an outside vendor called Pickle Barrel Sirloin Tips out of South Bend, Indiana.
There are some deals on food you can find, if you walk around and find them, including an entire large pizza for just $7.00, one vendor had bottled water, two for $1.00 and there's a stand that sells $1.00 hot dogs.
As far as the amusement rides, this year there are three new ones for the youngsters.
The Volkswagen Kiddie Ride. Calling all car enthusiasts! You're sure to be snug as a bug as you ride the circuit in our all-new Volkswagons. Honk your horns and steer your way around the track while you're jamming to the music and cruising on!
The Tractor Kiddie Ride. Come on down to the farm and have a great time driving or riding on your very own tractor. Beep your horn and sing along to your favorite farm-themed music. What kid doesn't want to ride a tractor?
The Quad Runner Kiddie Ride. Ready for some four-wheeling fun? Rev those engines and toot those horns. The Quad Runner - an adventure awaits you!
If you are worried about not being able to walk around the fairgrounds because of health reasons, you can rent a motorized chair for $55.00 for the entire day, or a wheelchair for $25.00 for the day.
