New details in double-fatal Vienna crash

VIENNA, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Police say their investigation into a double fatal accident in the Town of Vienna has revealed new information into who was driving.

According to authorities, Angelo J. Gonzalez, 21 of Camden was driving the Chevrolet Impala on June 8 when the care left the west shoulder of the roadway on Vienna Road shortly after 2 a.m., striking a tree and overturning. Tyler Laplante, 20, who authorities had previously thought was the driver, was revealed to be the passenger in the vehicle.

After striking the tree and overturning, the vehicle caught on fire and became fully engulfed.

The two died as a result of the accident.

A third occupant, Justin T. Didio, 22, of Oneida, was able to exit the vehicle and call for assistance. Authorities said he sustained non life-threatening injuries.

State Police say they believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
