New initiative looks draw in younger crowds to the theatre


UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Broadway Theatre League of Utica has announced a new program designed to get young people involved in theater.

The Young Ambassadors Program will offer two students from every high school in the area free season tickets to the Broadway Theatre League shows for the 2012-2013 season.

In return, students will be required to write a short review of each play and create buzz on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

"The next generation of folks is what is going to keep Broadway on the road and we need to get the word out there as easily as we can, as effectively as we can, and we think this is going to be a great way to do it," said John Felhner, Executive Director, Broadway Theatre League.

The details of the program are still being decided, but information for interested students should be available in the upcoming weeks .

The new schedule for the 2012-2013 Broadway Theatre League was also announced Tuesday:

*West Side Story - November 7th and 8th

*A Chorus Line - January 8th and 9th

*The Addams Family - February 12th and 13th

*Rock of Ages - April 16 and 17th

*Catch Me If You Can - June 4th and 5th
