UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Downtown Utica has new life after the beginning of a partnership between local business leaders, higher education leaders, and elected officials.
The new partnership, titled "ThINCubator," a play on words for The-INC-ubator, is aimed about becoming a type of incubator for molding ideas of young locals into 'Innovative New Companies.'
The partnership will team area business leaders, who have already experienced success in their industries, with local colleges to serve as mentors for students from MVCC and other colleges in the Greater Utica area.
"The teams will have their own space," said John Liddy, Founding Director of thINCubator. "They'll have their own 24/7 access, they have computers and all that.
"The mixing of the two teams (business owners and students) is a great opportunity for both."
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida counties provided an $84,000 grant to get the partnership up and running.
