Newland Jr. pleads guilty to rape charges, Newland Sr. pleads not guilty

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - New developments in the case of a former Holland Patent school bus driver, and his son.

Michael Newland Senior, 44, and his son Michael Newland Junior, 23, both appeared Tuesday in court, although they appeared at two different courts and at different times.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara told NEWSChannel 2 that Michael Newland Junior pleaded guilty to Third Degree Rape, felony charge, in Oneida County Court.

The incident allegedly occurred back on October 21st, when Newland Junior's father, who was a Holland Patent school bus driver at the time, introduced him to an under aged girl on his bus. Newland has since been fired from his job as a school bus driver.

Newland Junior is now in Oneida County Jail, awaiting a sentencing next month.

A different story played out Tuesday night In the Town of Trenton Court at Newland Senior's arraignment. Newland Senior pleaded not guilty to charges of endangering the welfare of a child. After the not guilty plea was entered, the Assistant District Attorney put a plea deal on the table.

The details of that plea agreement were not disclosed. Now, Newland Senior's case, has been adjourned to January 4th.

Last month, Newland Senior also pleaded not guilty to sexual abuse charges in a separate case, regarding a different underage girl who also rode his school bus, he's due back in the Town of Ohio Court January 25th.
