Nighttime march honors Martin Luther King Jr.

By WKTV News

UTICA-(WKTV)Dozens of people braved the cold temperatures all to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday night.

A police escort led a group of about 50 marchers who were walking in honor of King.

This is the 29th year the county run event has been held.
The group marched in a circle from St. Mary of Mount Carmel Blessed Sacrament Church on Jay Street.

Organizers say the event symbolizes the marches that took place during the civil rights movement. And they say they hope people consider the holiday as not a "day off but a day on."

"Legally it's a holiday you can stay home and do nothing," said Jean Davis committee chair. "A "Day On" means that we commemorate and we remember how far we come, because of the sacrifices that Dr. King made."
