UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A longtime ice cream shop in North Utica will be closing its doors at the end of the month.

According to a corporate spokesperson, the Friendly's Restaurant on North Genesee Street will be closing its doors on Sunday, January 22.

Company representatives say that the closing is not part of a string of closures of Friendly's Restaurants around the country, but its because of the lease on the location coming to an end.

"The lease has been terminated at that location and we are forced to vacate," the corporate spokesperson said Friday.

All other stores in the area, including the Friendly's Restaurants on Burrstone Road, in Sangertown Square Mall, in Rome, and Oneida will all remain open.

The North Utica Friendly's currently employs 17 people. The Corporate Spokesperson says that all those employees will be offered employment at the other Friendly's locations in the area.
