Norwich couple accused of welfare fraud

(WKTV) - A Norwich couple was arrested on felony charges and accused of welfare fraud that took place over the course of almost five years, Chenango County Sheriff's Office said.

Gregory F. Huzinec, 55, and Donna M. Huzinec, 52, of the Town of Norwich are each charged with one count of welfare fraud in the third degree, a Class D felony, and one count each of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a Class E felony.

According to officials, the Huzinecs allegedly received $13,161 in assistance from the department of social services they were not entitled to. They also allegedly failed to report a change in household composition in a timely manner. Officials say the fraud took place from October 2008 to April 2013.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the fraud investigations unit of the Department of Social Services.
