Obama postpones visit to Schenectady GE plant after shooting

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - President Barack Obama has postponed his planned trip this week to General Electric's energy division in Schenectady.

The White House said Sunday that the trip, planned for Tuesday, will be rescheduled. The announcement was made as Obama called on people in the United States to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. EST Monday to honor victims of the Arizona shooting.

The Schenectady visit, Obama's third to upstate New York since May, was to include a tour of GE's battery plant in Schenectady with chief executive Jeffrey Immelt.
