Officials: Stay off the streets as water levels continue to rise

By WKTV News

Stay off the streets - that's the warning from officials in several counties Wednesday night.

There are reports of flooding in nearly every municipality and the roads are dangerous.

The following areas have all declared a state of emergency:

  • Otsego County
  • Chenango County
  • Oneida County
  • Herkimer County
  • City of Utica
  • City of Oneonta
  • Town of Unadilla
  • Village of Herkimer
  • Village of Whitesboro
  • Village of Ilion

A State of Emergency means no unnecessary travel as the roads are extremely dangerous. Some residents have even been forced to evacuate their homes as flood waters continue to rise.

Meteorologists report that the storms and heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the night and into Thursday, which will unfortunately, only make matters worse.
