ROME, N.Y.(WKTV)Local leaders gathered at Premier Aviation to discuss Oneida County's "On-The-Job Training Program" Wednesday.
New York State will reimburse up to 90% of the wages for new hires during a six month training period.
Through this initiative, Premier Aviation has already hired 12 new workers who were previously unemployed and have plans to hire seven more in the future.
In 2011, the local region received over $500,000 for 50 businesses that hired 104 long-term unemployed individuals.
"It trains them into a new capacity of learning that in the case of Premier Aviation leads them into a new career," said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente. "Because aviation has been somewhat new and somewhat different then other areas of manufacturing we have seen in in the Mohawk Valley."
Those interested in finding employment through the "On-The-Job Program" should contact Working Solutions at (315) 793-2200.
