One minor injury reported following fire in Utica

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Crews were called to the scene of a fire on Bleecker Street in Utica. Flames erupted around 9 p.m. Monday night.

When crews arrived at 1019 Bleecker Street smoke was pouring out of the building.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down within minutes.

Deputy Chief Michael Wusik say the fire appears to have started on a mattress in the second story front apartment in the building. Once the fire was extinguished, crews tossed the charred mattress out the window.

There was one minor injury reported at the scene. Officials believe the woman was suffering from an asthma attack and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. She was not a resident of the apartment where the fire was, she lived on the third floor.

Fire investigators were on the scene Monday evening, trying to determine was sparked the flames.

A family of four was living inside the apartment where the fire started. Three adults and one child are staying with friends and family.
