Jefferson County man dead after car collides with tree in Lewis County

MONTAGUE, N.Y. (WKTV) -A Jefferson County man has died following a one-car motor vehicle accident in Lewis County on Wednesday.
According to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred around 12:37 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Gardner Road and Sears Pond Road in the Town of Montague.
Authorities say Matthew J. Brenon, 47, of Brownville was driving a Dodge van north on Sears Pond Road when he exited the right side of the road at the Gardner Road intersection, became airborne and struck a telephone junction box and then a tree.
Lewis County Sheriff's Deputies say the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by EMS 1, New York State Police, Lewis County Search and Rescue and the Lowville Fire Department.
