UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) A home in North Utica sustained extensive damage after a fire Friday morning. It started shortly before 11 Friday morning at 617 Herkimer Road. When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the home.

Firefighters knocked the flames down within 20 minutes. Utica Fire officials say that one person was inside the home at the time, but they were able to make it out safely.
