(WKTV) - A two-car accident on State Route 840 on Monday afternoon sent one passenger to the hospital with minor injuries, New Hartford Police said.

Around 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, officials responded to an accident at a railroad crossing just west of State Route 5 on State Route 840. According to police, a car driven by Thomas Williams, 40, of Whitesboro was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Claire Kowalczyk of New Hartford.

The collision sent Kowalczyk's vehicle into the center median of State Route 840, where it came to rest and caused several lanes of traffic to be shut down. Kowalczyk's passenger was transported to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries to her hand.
