Oneida County Historical Society back open after ceiling collapse

By CAROLINE GABLE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After a ceiling collapse almost two weeks ago at the Oneida County Historical Society, the building is back open.

Disaster services is still cleaning up the main gallery, but the 100 year old building has been inspected and it is safe for patrons to step inside.

Executive Director Brian Howard says that damage to one of a kind artifacts was minimal.

"We had two in our military exhibit, some items from the second World War that were either dusty or damaged, but nothing destroyed in there," Howard said. "We also has some cases in our Architectual Heritage Exhibit a few items from that old Baggs Hotel that were ruined, but other than that, pretty much everything is just either bent or just covered with dust and insulation."

Repairs will continue into 2011, and while the building is insured, the Historical Society welcomes any donations to aid in their repairs.

The building will be closed on Saturday's during the renovation.
