Oneida County Jail featured on A&E

(WKTV) - The Oneida County Correctional Facility's "Scared Straight Program" was featured on the A&E network Thursday night. The episode aired at 10:00 as part of the nationally recognized weekly program called "Beyond Scared Straight."

Several male participants going through the program at the county jail were featured. The "Scared Straight Program" offers a brief period of incarceration to those who might be headed down the path of crimes.

Offenders are referred to the program from various courts in the county. The intent is to show them what they can expect if they don't change their ways.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol had been contacted by the A&E network earlier this year due to the program's success.

There is a second episode that was also filmed at the correctional facility it will air later in 2013. The date has not yet been determined.
