Oneida County Legislature votes to reduce seats

By WKTV News

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida County Legislature voted to reduce the number of legislators by 4.

Currently, there are 29 seats in the Legislature, but representatives were calling to slash anywhere from 4 to 15 seats at Tuesday night's meeting. The group decided to cut four and the proposal was carried by a vote of 18 to 9.

This is an amendment to the original recommendation from the Ways and Means Committee. The proposal will now sit for two weeks.

Legislators must vote on the issue by June 15th to make the November ballot. It will be up to residents to decide at the polls how they feel about the cuts. If the public passes the proposal, the changes would take effect in 2014.
