Oneida County Sheriff's Office recognizes hard work of officers with more than 100 awards

By WKTV News

ORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - One of many recipients at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office's annual award recognition ceremony on Tuesday was Deputy Michael Burger.

Burger was shot while persuing bank robber Brian Brown last July in connection with a robbery at NBT Bank in Rome, with Burger's emotional testimony playing a large role in the prosecution's case.

On Tuesday, more than 100 awards were given out, and Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol stresses that the hard work of every job, whether inside or out on the streets, deserves to be recognized.

"Whether someone works on the road patrol or in the correctional facility, they have a job that's important and it's important that they be recognized for it," Sheriff Maciol said. "These people put their lives on the line each and every day."
