Oneida County receives grant to improve neighborhood conditions

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente announced a new program designed to make neighborhoods more healthy, Friday.
A $1.3 million grant was awarded to the Oneida County Health Department to help upgrade some of Rome's aging housing in addition to some in neighboring villages and towns.
Picente said the Health Department will work with landlords and tenants to help with some issues that could cause those living in these older homes, health problems.
"Well long term the savings go across the board, in terms of saving lives and keeping people healthy," said Picente. "When you keep them healthy it reduces costs in terms of hospitals and term of amount of care the county or other agencies have to provide."
The five-year program will begin in June.
