Still no official winner in Utica Mayor's race, votes still being counted

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Board of Elections counted absentee ballots all day on Wednesday, but an official winner of the Utica mayoral race has still not been decided.

560 of the 729 absentee ballots have been counted as of Wednesday evening. Election officials say the work is quite tedious - as they must read aloud every one of the 729 ballots while another official records the information.

Official updated numbers are not available as of this writing Wednesday night because Board of Elections workers are not allowed to disclose any information until all of the absentee ballots are counted.

Representatives from both Democrat candidate Robert Palmieri and Republican candidate Michael Cerminaro's campaigns were at the Board of Elections all day keeping track of the results on their own pads and paper. Both camps had calculated very different numbers as of Wednesday evening

Election officials will resume counting absentee ballots Thursday morning. We will have to wait until at least then to find out the official winner of the Utica mayoral race.
