Oneida County wakes to find itself underwater

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Several areas around Oneida County saw significant flooding on Friday with one of the harder areas hit was at the intersection of Seneca Turnpike and Commercial Drive in New Hartford.

Water flooded the Jay-K lumber parking lot, crossed over Seneca Turnpike and rushed down into the Big Apple Music Plaza causing several business to evacuate.

"This is devastating," says Kenneth Ruszkowski, who owns the Valley Brook Motel on Seneca Turnpike. "They've done such a great job cleaning up this corner and making it look like something and then something like this comes along and floods it all away."

In Whitesboro parts of Main Street, Oriskany Boulevard, and Commercial Drive were hit with severe flooding.

In New York Mills, Clinton Street in front of Hapanowicz was underwater. Most businesses in that area were forced to close and residents were left trying to pump out basements.

Once the water subsides, residents and business owners will assess the damage and begin the painstaking process of cleaning up the mess.
