Oneida County youth volunteers step up to the plate

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - If anyone ever says children don't give back to their communities, just point to youth volunteers in Oneida County.

More than 800 youth volunteers gave their time in 2013, totaling 3,070 volunteer hours. It all started with an initiative through the Oneida County Youth Bureau.

According to Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says the idea came about as part of a conversation with a senior center looking for young people to help them out.

Three student volunteers from Proctor High School attended a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the efforts shown by young people in the county.
