Oneonta man accused of failing to pay for indoor grow closet

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - An Oneonta man was charged after he allegedly bought an indoor hydroponics grow closet and didn't pay for it, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office said.

Eddy Gue Sr., 36, of Market Street in Oneonta, is charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree.

According to officials, Gue, who is formerly of Milford, ordered the grow closet from a California company in October. After it was delivered in late November, he failed to pay for it. The company contacted the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division in early 2014 after numerous unsuccessful attempts in recovering their money.

Gue was interviewed in March and admitted to buying the closet with the intent of not paying for it. He surrendered himself to the sheriff's office on Friday.

A grow closet is used for growing plants indoors -- such as vegetables -- under plant grow lights. They are commonly used to grow marijuana.

Gue faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
