Oneonta woman accused of stealing van, then selling it

(WKTV) - An Oneonta woman is accused of stealing a van then selling it, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office said.

Kristen Lynn Rudnitsky, 24, of Scrambling Avenue in Oneonta is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree and possession of a forged certificate of title.

According to authorities, the owner of a 1995 Dodge van who was out of the area came home in the fall and discovered the vehicle missing. An investigation revealed that Rudnitsky allegedly forged the owner's name on several DMV documents and sold the van to a Binghamton resident who unknowingly registered the van at the Binghamton DMV. DMV investigators recovered the van in Binghamton in November.

Rudnitsky is in the Otsego County Correctional Facility serving a nine-month sentence for drug possession. She will reappear in April in Oneonta Town Court. She faces up to seven years in prison.
