Open House for newly expanded Family Life and Recovery Center in Utica

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Compeer of the Mohawk Valley is now under the umbrella of The Center for Family Life and Recovery, and they are now officially under the same roof at Mill Square on Court St. in Utica.

The Center for Family Life and Recovery is holding an Open House for the community to not only see how the two agencies have merged, but what is offered.

The Compeer program recruits, screens and trains community volunteers to become mentors and supportive friends to at-risk youth, as well as adults and area veterans who are receiving mental health treatment.

The center for Family Life and Recovery provides numerous programs for area residents including suicide prevention, counseling and recovery services.

Today's open house is not only for people in our community who may need assistance, but also for anyone who is interested in learning about becoming a Compeer volunteer mentor or supportive friend.

Compeer Coordinator Judith Reilly says there is a big need for area veterans to become volunteers, "We have a specific need with our veteran community, if there are vets there who want to help. We see many of our men and women coming back, having a tough time readjusting, so we super need those volunteers, they need to be a vet, peer to peer."

Today's afternoon open house is set to take place from 4:30 to 5:30 at 502 Court St. in Utica.
