Oriskany among tops in upstate districts for graduation rate

(WKTV) - A Buffalo-based publication has analyzed graduation rates for every school district in the state, and one local district ranks No. 2 among upstate schools for making sure kids get their diplomas.

Oriskany High School ranked No. 2 among upstate school districts that had at least 25 graduates. Oriskany's graduation rate was 98.04 percent.

Other area schools that ranked in the Top 50 include Cooperstown at No. 8, Laurens clocking in at No. 10, New Hartford ranking No. 11, Hamilton coming in at No. 19, Holland Patent at No. 24, Town of Webb at No. 27, Poland ranking No. 35 and Schenevus coming in at No. 49.

The figures for 677 school districts were released Monday afternoon by the New York State Education Department, and compiled by Buffalo Business First. The rates are the 2013 graduating class. As a result, Mohawk and Ilion are listed separately, as Central Valley had not yet been formed.

Here's how area schools ranked:

Adirondack had 127 students enter in the fall of 2009, and 107 graduate in 2013, making a graduation rate of 84.25 percent. Nine of those students dropped out, making the dropout rate 7.09 percent.

Brookfield had 17 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 17 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 100 percent. No students dropped out.

Camden had 205 students enter in the fall of 2009, and 167 graduate in 2013, making a graduation rate of 81.46 percent. Fourteen students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.83 percent.

Canastota had 130 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 97 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 74.62 percent. Nine students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.92 percent.

Cherry Valley-Springfield had 46 students enter in the fall of 2009, and 41 graduate in 2013, making a graduation rate of 89.13 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.52 percent.

Clinton had 111 students enter in the fall of 2009, and 102 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 91.89 percent. Four students dropped out, making the dropout rate 3.60 percent.

Cooperstown had 77 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 75 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 97.40 percent. No students dropped out.

Dolgeville had 67 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 56 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 83.58 percent. Six students dropped out, making the dropout rate 8.96 percent.

Edmeston had 43 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 35 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 81.40 percent. Five students dropped out, making the dropout rate 11.63 percent.

Frankfort-Schuyler had 84 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 59 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 70.24 percent. Twelve students dropped out, making the dropout rate 14.29 percent.

Gilbertsville-Mount Upton had 35 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 28 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 80 percent. Five students dropped out, making the dropout rate 14.29.

Hamilton had 40 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 38 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 95 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 2.50 percent.

Herkimer had 107 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 77 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 71.96 percent. Twenty-one students dropped out, making the dropout rate 19.63 percent.

Holland Patent had 144 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 136 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 94.44 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 2.08 percent.

Ilion had 117 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 97 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 82.91 percent. Thirteen students dropped out, making the dropout rate 11.11 percent.

Indian Lake had 21 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 19 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 90.48 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 4.76 percent.

Laurens had 30 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 29 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 96.67 percent. No students dropped out.

Little Falls had 94 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 72 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 76.60 percent. Thirteen students dropped out, making the dropout rate 13.83 percent.

Long Lake had nine students enter in the fall of 2009 and eight students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 88.89 percent. No students dropped out.

Madison had 30 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 23 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 76.67 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 10 percent.

Milford had 39 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 30 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 76.92 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 5.13 percent.

Mohawk had 69 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 53 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 76.81 percent. Eight students dropped out, making the dropout rate 11.59 percent.

Morris had 45 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 40 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 88.89 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 2.22 percent.

Morrisville-Eaton had 62 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 52 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 83.87 percent. Four students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.45 percent.

Mount Markham had 107 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 95 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 88.79 percent. Six students dropped out, making the dropout rate 5.61 percent.

New Hartford had 209 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 201 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 96.17 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 0.96 percent.

New York Mills had 51 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 41 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 80.39 percent. No students dropped out.

Oneonta had 178 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 134 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 75.28 percent. Thirteen students dropped out, making the dropout rate 7.30 percent.

Oneida had 192 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 152 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 79.17 percent. Nineteen students dropped out, making the dropout rate 9.90 percent.

Oriskany had 51 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 50 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 98.04 percent. No students dropped out.

Poland had 47 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 44 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 93.62 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 2.13 percent.

Remsen had 31 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 28 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 90.32 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 3.23 percent.

Richfield Springs had 51 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 37 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 72.55 percent. Four dropped out, making dropout rate the 7.84 percent.

Rome had 448 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 307 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 68.53 percent. Fifty-five students dropped out, making the dropout rate 12.28 percent.

Sauquoit Valley had 107 students enter in the fall of 2009, and 93 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 86.92 percent. Seven students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.54 percent

Schenevus had 27 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 25 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 92.59 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 7.41 percent.

Sherburne-Earlville had 124 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 110 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 88.71 percent. Six students dropped out, making the dropout rate 4.84 percent.

Stockbridge Valley had 46 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 41 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 89.13 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 6.52 percent.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill had 156 students enter in the fall and 144 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 92.31 percent. Five students dropped out, making the dropout rate 3.21 percent.

Town of Webb had 35 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 33 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 94.29 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 5.71 percent.

Unatego had 87 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 75 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 86.21 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 3.45 percent. 

Utica had 675 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 401 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 59.41 percent. Ninety-seven students dropped out, making the dropout rate 14.37 percent.

Van Hornesville-Owen D. Young had 12 students enter in the fall of 2009 and seven graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 58.33 percent. One student dropped out, making the dropout rate 8.33 percent.

Waterville had 68 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 57 graduate in 2013, making the gaduation rate 83.82 percent. Three students dropped out, making the dropout rate 4.41 percent.

Wells had 22 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 16 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 72.73 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 9.09 percent.

West Canada Valley had 62 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 50 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 80.65 percent. Five dropped out, making the dropout rate 8.07 percent.

Westmoreland had 90 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 76 graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 84.44 percent. Two students dropped out, making the dropout rate 2.22 percent.

Whitesboro had 300 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 265 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 88.33 percent. Twenty-one dropped out, making the dropout rate seven percent.

Worcester had 36 students enter in the fall of 2009 and 26 students graduate in 2013, making the graduation rate 72.22 percent. Four students dropped out, making the dropout rate 11.11 percent.
