Out of the Darkness Walk aims to help suicide prevention

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Out of the Darkness Community Walk took place, Saturday, at the SUNY IT campus with many local residents getting active for a good cause.

Right now, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. This walk was a way for people of the community to show those who may be suicidal that they have a voice, and that there is someone there to listen to it.

In order to motivate participants to raise as much money as possible for suicide awareness and prevention, the program offered teams that raised more than $150, free Out of the Darkness t-shirts, to wear proudly during the walk.

The walk benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
