Annual luncheon honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

(WKTV) - Nearly 400 people gathered in Utica on Monday to help continue the dream of Martin Luther King Jr.

The ballroom at the Radisson was standing room only for the luncheon, which the Mohawk Valley Frontiers Group has organized the past 30 years. The luncheon is to honor the area's youngest and brightest, as well as to detail how far the country has come in terms of civil rights.

The Frontiers learn they have the potential to be someone and get a little guidance along the way.

"We monitor their grades," said Rich Davis of Mohawk Valley Frontiers. "We give them tutors if they need tutors. We try and look at their community development ideas."

Monday's keynote speaker was Federal Court Judge David Hurd. The event was so popular this year, a couple dozen people were put on a wait list for tickets.\
