Phoenix Publisher meets with Mayor, writes apology letters to misidentified officer in dashcam video clip that went viral
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - City of Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri sat down recently with the publisher of the Utica Phoenix newspaper to discuss the UPD dashcam video that went viral.
Mayor Palmieri wouldn't give details, but called the meeting "meaningful" and said that he hopes it will help the city move on.
Phoenix Publisher Cassandra Harris Lockwood posted on the Phoenix's website, a 1 minute, 40 second video clip of a February 2011 traffic stop and accompanying article that suggested a Utica Police Officer planted evidence on the suspects. Utica Police responded by issues the full traffic stop video, roughly 30 minutes in length, that shows the officers pulling the evidence in question out of the pockets of those in the vehicle.
The mayor says he stands by the Utica Police Chief and the Utica Police Department.
An original article by the Utica Phoenix misidentified the two officers who were in the clip. Lockwood recently sent handwritten letters to the officers apologizing for the error.
