ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Employees at the Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome gathered outside the prison Wednesday night to picket the closure of the prison - a closure that they say will affect 333 jobs.
Employees are also trying to spread the word about an online petition asking Governor Andrew Cuomo to reconsider his decision to close the Correctional Facility.
The petition will also be sent to 43 other government employees and agencies.
A union representative expects the closure by October 1. Families say that doesn't give them much time to relocate, and they fear a mass exodus of residents will have a negative trickle down affect on the surrounding communities.
