UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The man charged in Utica's first murder of the year rejected a plea offer Wednesday in Oneida County Court.

Antwuan J. March, 21, is accused of shooting Umar Khadafy Abdur Rahman to death at Geno's Tavern on James Street in Utica back in January and now faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Umar Khadafy Abdur Rahman, 27, of Utica, died after he was shot at the bar around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 2. Upon arrival, police located Rahman bleeding. He was treated on scene by the Utica Fire Department and sent to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The shooting had remained under investigation ever since. The bar had lost its liquor license on May 26. At the time, the State Liquor Authority stated that the bar had its license cancelled at the meeting, and describes a cancellation as "terminating the license, but does not ban the licensee from applying for a license for two years." The bar is listed as being owned by John Sigbieny.

March will go to trial for Rahman's murder, probably some time this fall.
