(WKTV) - The Poland Central School District was briefly on lockdown Monday, after a teacher found a shotgun shell on the grounds.
According to Superintendent Laura Dutton, a sweep of the campus was conducted.
New York State Police determined there was not a threat to students or staff.
"Please know that the Poland Central School District takes safety very seriously and will investigate and respond with due diligence in instances when safety becomes a concern," Dutton said in a letter to parents posted on the district's website. "Staff members, as demonstrated today, are very vigilant and aware of their surroundings -- during indoor and outdoor activity."
Dutton continued: "While we are aware of our rural setting and the interests that our community members have with respect to hunting, we also believe that in the current climate of school campus incidents across the nation, that we must also take concerns seriously."
