Poland man accused of abusing teen with disabilities

(WKTV) - A Poland man faces charges that he allegedly abused a teen with developmental disabilities, the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs said.

Robert Pomichter, 62, is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree and one count of unlawfully dealing with a child in the first degree.

According to officials, Pomicheter allegedly gave a teen girl with developmental disabilities alcohol and touched her. Pomichter and his wife operated a family care program. The teen has been removed from the home.

Pomichter, who was arrested March 29, was arraigned in the Norway Town Court. The case is being prosecuted by the Herkimer County District Attorney's Office.

The incident came to the attention of law enforcement officials when it was reported to the Justice Center's Vulnerable Persons Central Register Hotline. New York State Police were notified and launched an investigation, along with Justice Center criminal investigators.
