Poland man charged with DWI after allegedly hitting police car

(WKTV) - A Poland man faces charges after he allegedly struck a Utica police car with his truck early Tuesday, Utica police said.

Brian Lekki, 32, of Butler Road in Poland is charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated and a violation of passing a red light.

According to authorities, just after midnight Tuesday, UPD Officer Strife was responding to a call and was driving eastbound on Broad Street. He proceeded through the intersection at Route 5s, when he was broadsided on the passenger side by a Dodge Ram truck.

The collision caused Strife's car to spin several times and knock down a street sign. The officer was transported to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. During the investigation, officers gave the drive a sobriety test and found his blood alcohol content was 0.15 percent.

The police car sustained serious damage.
