Police & EMTs take stand in attempted murder trial

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Day two of testimony in the attempted murder trial of a Frankfort woman accused of stabbing her husband brought several police officers and emergency medical personnel to the witness stand.

Jenise Haddad is on trial for attempted murder and assault. Both she and her estranged husband, Todd Smith, had stab wounds when police arrived at Smith's parents' Westmoreland home March 8th of last year. Haddad's attorney is trying to raise doubt in the juror's minds as to who was the aggressor.

"So if there were a struggle and based on those answers, you don't know to this day who the aggressor was do you?" asked defense attorney George Aney of State Trooper Robert Nackley, who was first on the scene.

"He stated that my wife tried to kill me. She cut my throat with a knife," said the trooper of his initial encounter with Smith, who was sitting in the road, bleeding, in front of his parents' home.

Smith himself is expected on the witness stand tomorrow.
