Police: Ithaca crash may have been caused by faulty brakes

ITHACA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The driver of the run-away tractor trailer that crashed into an Ithaca restaurant on Friday may have had his brakes go out on him, according to investigators.
Authorities believe the 37-year-old driver was trying to turn, but was unable to stop before crashing into Simeon's restaurant.
Amanda Bush, 27, a bartender at the restaurant was killed in the crash, with at least four others suffering non-life threatening injuries.
"It's my understanding that he realized he didn't have any brakes," said Ithaca Police Chief John Barber. "He attempted to make the turn, he saw a number of people working on the commons so he realized he wasn't going to be able to continue straight through the commons, so he tried to make that turn."

The driver was ticketed for having an inadequate braking system and for violating vehicle length restrictions.
