HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - An employee of Tebb's Headshop in Herkimer has been charged after police say they seized numerous packages of synthetic substances being sold in the store as "glass cleaner."

On Thursday June 28, Herkimer Police charged Alexander I. Grzesik, 30, of Utica, who is an employee of Tebb's Headshop in Herkimer, under a local law ordinance that prohibits the sale or possession of synthetic substances.

Police said Grzesik was given an appearance ticket for possession of a synthetic substance.

Herkimer Police say they seized more than 200 packages of a product being sold as glass cleaner. Police say the substance is ingested and mimics the effects of controlled substances.

Like many other areas, the Herkimer Police have seen a dramatic increase in incidents where they encountered people under the influence of these synthetic substances, commonly referred to as 'bath salts'.

Police also seized a quantity of synthetic marijuana sold as "potpourri."
