ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man has been charged after police say he was caught burglarizing a home on Walnut Street in Rome.

On July 26, officers responded to a call for suspicious activity at an unoccupied residence in the 700 block of Walnut Street. When they arrived on the scene, the officers found an open window at the home and say Joseph J. Schillaci, 26, of Rome ran from the home.

Officers pursued Schillaci, taking him into custody following a brief foot chase. Police say that at the time of his apprehension, Schillaci was found to be in possession of gold and silver jewelry that had been taken from the home.

He has been charged with second-degree burglary and is being held in Rome Police Lock-Up pending arraignment in Rome City Court.
