NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man was injured following an accident involving a U-Haul rental truck on Sitrin Lane in New Hartford just before midnight on Monday.

According to the New Hartford Police Department, Joshua B. Sill, 21, of Utica was operating a U-Haul rental truck northeast on Sitrin Lane. Police say while rounding a curve in the roadway, Sill turned his attention to his passenger, Craig Palmer, 32, also of Utica.

Police say this caused his vehicle to leave the east side of the roadway and strike a culvert, the force of the collision causing both the driver and passenger side airbags to deploy.

Police say Palmer complained of chest pain and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, but Sill was uninjured.

Sill contacted NEWSChannel 2 on Tuesday to say he was headed to the hospital as he was experiencing delayed pain.

He was issued a summons for failing to maintain his lane and is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.

The New Hartford Police Department were assisted on scene by New Hartford Fire and Edward's Ambulance.
