Police: Utica duo attempted to cash check stolen from elderly person

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police have arrested two people they say attempted to cash a check stolen from an elderly person.

On September 26, UPD Investigator Edward Smith received a phone call from a local bank to report that someone was in the bank, attempting to cash a stolen check from the account of an elderly person.

Investigator Smith began an investigation into the incident, and with the assistance of Office for the Aging Elder Abuse Coalition Program Coordinator Kristen Palmer he was able to charge two people - Dawn Beasock, 26, of Yorkville and Eddie Garcia, 18, of Utica.

Beasock has been charged with possession of a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny.

Garcia is charged with two counts of possession of a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny.

It is alleged that they attempted to cash a check stolen from an 89 year old victim.
