Police: Utica man drove snowmobile drunk on Hinckley

REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man was sent to the hospital Sunday after he allegedly crashed his snowmobile on Hinckley Reservoir while operating it under the influence of alcohol.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, 27-year-old Matthew Rothwell was operating his snowmobile on Hinckley Reservoir when he possibly hit a sand bar or upheaval in the ice.

Police say Rothwell was ejected from the snowmobile and was knocked unconscious. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for an evaluation and injuries to his face.

Police charged Rothwell with operating a snowmobile while intoxicated and imprudent speed.

The accident is still under investigation.
