NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police say a New Hartford woman driving a blue sedan has came forward following a collision with a motorcycle on Seneca Turnpike near Sangertown Square mall at 11:45 a.m. on Monday.
Police say Dale M. Stanley, 32, of Clinton was riding his Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Seneca Turnpike when a blue sedan crossed the path of the motorcycle. Witnesses reported that the blue sedan made a left turn from Irving Road onto Seneca Turnpike and collided with the motorcycle. Stanley made an unsuccessful attempt to avoid the collision.
After the collision, the motorcycle came to rest on the north side of Seneca Turnpike.
Witnesses reported that the car was occupied by an elderly female who stopped, got out of the car and looked at the downed motorcycle. She then got back into the car and drove from the scene on Seneca Turnpike towards Commercial Drive, police said.
All area police agencies were given a description of the car and told to be on the lookout for it.
Stanley was treated at the scene for multiple injuries by members of the New Hartford Fire Department before being transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica by Edwards Ambulance Service. Police said injuries to his neck, leg, back and arm are not believed to be life-threatening. Stanley was wearing an approved helmet that likely prevented injury to his head.
At about 2:15 p.m. New Hartford Police were contacted by the driver of the car, Martha Chopchic, 83, of New Hartford. Chopchic reported that she was the driver of the car that collided with the motorcycle earlier on Seneca Turnpike. Chopchic was issued summons' for failing to yield the right-of-way and for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Leaving the scene of an accident involving injury is a misdemeanor. She is scheduled to answer the charges in New Hartford Court on September 11.
