Police alerted to accident by vehicle's OnStar system

GEORGETOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) Madison County Sheriff's officials say they were alerted to a one vehicle accident early Sunday morning by an automated call from that vehicle's OnStar system.

The 911 call from OnStar came in around 12:45 Sunday morning indicating an accident took place at the intersection of State Route 80 and Jones Road in the Town of Georgetown.

A deputy arrived and says he found a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer had struck a tree and the driver, 39 year old James Fellows of DeRuyter, who is believed to have not been wearing a seat belt had been thrown into the backseat from the impact.

Fellows was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Sheriff's officials say his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, however Fellows is charged with D.W.I., unsafe speed on a curve and failure to wear a seat belt.
