Police investigating after Rome man shot to death
By NEWSChannel 2 Staff

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Rome Police now say that the death of a 50 year old man in his Lawrence Street apartment was a homicide.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, officers arrived at 115 Lawrence Street for a report of an unresponsive man, locating Charles S. Digristine inside.

Police say that Digristine suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but that there were no signs of forced entry into Digristine's apartment, leading police to believe this was not a random act.

This morning, police said that Digristine's roommate, who called 911 originally was being treated as a witness, not a suspect. No word at this time if that status has changed with these new developments.

No suspects are in custody as of this writing and Rome Police are encouraging anyone with information on the incident to contact investigators at 315-339-7715.

Anonymous emails may also be sent via www.romepd.com or the Rome Police Department Facebook page.

Authorities say they were not unfamiliar with Digristine.

"I don't have his criminal history here to give it to you, but he was known to us, yes," said Detective Timothy Bates of the Rome Police Department.
