Police investigating shooting in Town of Ava

AVA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police are investigating an apparent shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the Town of Ava, near Boonville.

New York State Police have confirmed several pieces of information, but an investigation is taking place to tie the facts together.

One man was shot outside of a home on Webster Hill Road by another man. Police say the shooter and the victim know each other. It is not clear who is a resident of the home and who is not.

According to police, the victim drove himself to the Boonville Fire Department and called 911 where he was met by an ambulance. He was sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

According to New York State Police Captain Francis Coots, the victim showed up at the residence upon arrival. Police say they do not know what incidents may have taken place before the shooting.

Police confirm to NEWSChannel 2 that they have one subject being interviewed by investigators. Captain Coots said, "We're developing a number of leads in the area. We talked to neighbors, trying to determine exactly what happened, what led to this shooting, and find out who needs to be brought to justice."
