UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Amid a large fight on a Utica playground, police say a teen was cut with a machete.

Officers responded to the O'Connor playground at Arthur Street and St. Vincent Street around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a large fight. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 16 year old male with a large laceration to his arm.

The teen told police that Saw Pa, 19, of Utica had approached the victim and the two began to fight, during which a third male handed Pa a machete. Police say Pa swung the machete at the victim, slicing his arm. The victim was then brought to the hospital where they underwent surgery.

Pa fled the scene and it was when officers were checking the area that they say he was located in the 1500 block of Howard Ave. He is facing charges of second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Investigators are looking into whether or not the incident was gang related.
